Unemployment refers to individuals who are looking for a job and are employable but couldn’t find a job. Unfortunately unemployment has become a major problem in Pakistan.

Most of the people despite of having a good educational degree are still unable to get a good job and have to suffer unemployment.

It is most common among fresh graduates. They have no means to earn a living and feed their families. Universities produce a number of graduates every year but they couldn’t find any relevant job. It doesn’t matter in which field or subject the person is graduated, it is almost the same situation for everyone.

Apart from fresh graduates, many people out there are retired or in their 50's and are unemployed. They are too young to retire. They are unemployed and couldn’t find any other job opportunities due to their age. People working in private sectors did not even get the pension when they leave their job.

As I’m a fresh graduate and looking for a job, I’m facing the same difficulties. I myself reflected about this issue and met a few people who are currently unemployed. Some of them are fresh graduates and others and retired. They have different point of views regarding this issue.

Unemployment Issues Among Fresh Graduates

First I’ll talk about the fresh graduates. They think that main cause of unemployment is lack of skills and in this regard educational institutes play an important role. They force to study much in less time and often fail to provide quality education. When students graduate, they have a degree but not skills. They have no mental growth or career counseling sessions regarding how to deal with an interview or job hunting process.

Some of the people think that culture of nepotism is another major reason behind unemployment. They knew some of their batch fellows who graduated with them and are clearly less skilled than them; still they got a job before their graduation. Their families have good connections and they used their sources to get their kids a good job.

A View of Unemployment in Middle Aged People

While talking to retired unemployed people, they said that they have a lot of skills and experience but the same work can be done by a person with 2–3 years of experience and companies hire them on low pays while the old aged people remain unemployed. They have the responsibility of the education of their children and their marriage and they even want to work but due to lack of jobs they couldn’t meet requirements of their family. They also think that economy of Pakistan is not stable and there are less number of industries. There are not enough industries of any field that can accommodate large number of employees.

This whole process was very enlightening that how people are willing to be employed and how keenly they want to take responsibility of their families.

It was a good experience overall to look into this problem deeply and meeting people of different ages and analyzing how they see the same problem with different perspectives. Listening to their views made me realize that looking into a problem from different perspectives can lead to a number of solutions.
