My Passion for Guitar

I had an interest in music since I was a kid. I remember writing a few songs with my sister. My interest in music developed another interest of learning musical instruments. I learnt keyboard a bit when I was a kid. Then it broke and I couldn’t continue my learning process.

My Goal

I was 12 years old when my brother bought a guitar. Seeing my brother playing guitar and singing always inspired me and I wanted to do the same. When I got admission in university, I became more passionate about music. I wanted to play instruments and sing songs. One of the easily accessible instruments was guitar for me and I really wanted to learn that.

Why this Goal?

I’m very passionate about music and always wanted to learn instruments. I want to sing and record songs with some good music.

Past Challenges

I’ve been planning on learning guitar since last four years but due to lack of time, dedication and consistency I was never able to achieve this goal.

My Experience during First Step of #Juststart

I tried to learn how to hold the guitar, placing fingertips without interrupting the other strings, some basic major chords and their scales. While completing the tasks this week I felt a sense of confidence that I can do it, I just need to START. It is something that I have always wanted to learn and now I have learnt some part of it. If I can do this, I can also learn the rest to become an expert one day.

Challenges during Learning Phase

1. I couldn’t achieve my goal in first week because I expected to learn a lot before starting but when I actually started, it was much more difficult than I thought.

2. I was a bit bored because I couldn’t play any proper music but I continued to try.

3. My fingers were hurting very badly.

4. I couldn’t put my fingertips firmly on chords due to long nails.

5. It was almost a complete exercise that my left arm started to hurt.

Next Steps

  1. In the coming weeks, I’ll learn matching chords along with chord shifting. I’ll also learn some song’s symphony and try to sing along.
  2. Third step will be finding scales of anonymous songs and then finding the respective chords.
